How will it be when one comes on the day of Judgement and realises he has no reward for fasting? Therefore, it is upon you to protect your fasting.
Shaykh Sālih Al-Fawzān حفظه الله ورعاه said;
“And in this era, when Ramadan comes, the army of shaytan, increase the number of programs and TV shows to distract people during this month. They distract them with love movies, comedy TV series which grasp the eyes and ears of many; and claim they are fasting. Yes, they are fasting from food and drink but not fasting from what Allaah has prohibited.
And you do not complete getting closer to Allaah with leaving the permissible for His sake until you leave what is forbidden for His sake.
So it is upon the Muslim to protect his fasting from these matters, as well as his eyes, ears and tongue for this is the true fasting person.
As for the one who uses his tongue for foul speech, and his eyes to look at the forbidden, and his ears to listen to forbidden things ;this person even if he leaves his serial desires and food/drink, Allaah will not accept his fasting. For fasting is not just leaving off food and drinks, it is leaving what He has forbidden as well.
So it is upon every Muslim to protect all of his/her limbs from whatever Allaah has forbidden; as this is the true fasting person; the one who is fasting inwardly and outwardly.
Adding to that, the intention to fast only for Allaah’s sake, this is the one who will get the huge reward of fasting.
As for the one who comes with a fasting which is just physical, which has many errors, all he gets from his fasting is hunger and thirst!
As the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said; “Whoever does not leave false speech, and action by it and ignorance, then Allaah has no need for him giving up his food and drink.”
May Allaah accept our ibaadaat therein and afterwards.
