Hadith: Oath, Suicide, Curse, Kufr

Narrated by Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak (Radi-Allahu ‘anhu):

(who was one of the companions who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) underneath the tree (Al-Hudaibiya))

Allah’s Apostle (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “Whoever swears by a religion other than Islam (i.e. if somebody swears by saying that he is a non-Muslim e.g., a Jew or a Christian, etc.), if his oath is false, he is really so. And a person is not bound to fulfill a vow about a thing which he does not possess.

And if somebody commits suicide with anything in this world, he will be tortured with that very thing on the Day of Resurrection;

And if somebody curses a believer, then his sin will be as if he murdered him; And whoever accuses a believer of Kufr (disbelief), then it is as if he killed him.”

How can you be a martyr if you are in the Hell-fire?! (ISIS, Book Haram,…)

Shaykh Fawzan(rahimahullaah): Some people say these individuals are martyrs. SubhanaAllaah! The person who kills himself is a martyr?! The person who burns himself up is a martyr?! As for the person who kills himself, Allaah has threatened him with the Hell-fire. Allaah the Exalted said:
“And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you. And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fire, and that is easy for Allaah.” (Soorah An-Nisā’ 4:29)
Is the person who kills his Muslim brother, and kills his Muslim sister, and the Muslim children; is this person a martyr?! This person is an aggressor, an oppressive transgressor. How can an oppressive, transgressing aggressor be a martyr?!

A man came to the Messenger of Allaah(may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):
“O Messenger of Allaah, what should I do if a man comes wanting to take my wealth? He replied: Don’t give him your wealth. He said: What if he kills me? He replied: You will be a martyr. He said: What if I kill him? He replied: He will be in the fire. (Muslim 140)

He will be in the Hell-fire. The person who oppresses the Muslims, kills them, and violates them; if this person is killed he will be in the fire. How can he be a martyr while he is the Hell-fire?

Bursting pimples and its effects on fasting

Praise be to Allaah.

Bursting pimples that appear on the face does not invalidate the fast and does not require that day to be made up later on.

The things that invalidate the fast are well known and are indicated by the Holy Qur’aan and the saheeh Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). They are as follows:

1-     Intercourse

2-     Masturbation

3-     Eating and drinking

4-     Things that take the place of eating and drinking, such as injections that provide nourishment

5-     Vomiting deliberately

6-     Cupping and things that are akin to it, such as donating blood

7-     Menstruation and postpartum bleeding in the case of women

It is not permissible to say that this thing invalidates the fast without sound evidence to that effect, and there is no evidence that busting pimples or boils that appear on the body invalidates the fast.

Based on this, your fast is valid and you do not have to make it up, but you will be rewarded for the day which you fasted to make it up, and that will count as a naafil (supererogatory) fast on your part.

It should also be noted that you should refer to a doctor about bursting these pimples to find out whether it harmful or not; if it is harmful then you should not do that.

And Allaah knows best.

Having dental treatment whilst fasting

Praise be to Allaah.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (May Allaah have mercy on him) was asked,

If a person suffers pain in his teeth and he goes to the dentist who cleans them or does a filling or extracts one of his teeth, does that affect his fast? If the dentist gives him an injection to anaesthetize his tooth, does that affect his fast?

He answered:

The things mentioned in this question doe not have any effect on the validity of the fast, rather that is allowed. But he has to be careful not to swallow any medicine or blood. Similarly, the injection mentioned does not affect the validity of the fast because it is not a kind of food or drink, and the basic principle is that his fast is valid. (Ajwabah Muhimmah tata’allaq bi Arkaan al-Islam).

If you can go to the dentist in the evening, this is preferable.
