MOTHER’S DAY

O children of Adam, what is it that affects your intellect? How will your mothers deserve just a day for their right upon you? How many khutbah or articles must we be told or read before we believe that all these days (mother’s day, Father’s day, birthday, marriage and death anniversaries etc) we ascribe to ourselves are innovations in the deen. Truly, my mum is the best mum in the world and same goes for your mums too.

Allaah says (interpretation of meaning):
“And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship and she brings him forth with hardship, and the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty (30) months, till when he attains full strength and reaches forty years… ” [Suratul Ahqaf :15]
How will you then appreciate your mothers by giving them flowers or gifts just in a day?
Indeed, they deserve more than even after the deaths that because many aayaat and ahadith detailed this.

Remember the hadith whereby a man once asked the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) to whom he should show the most kindness. The Prophet replied: “Your mother, next your mother, next your mother, and then your father.” (Sunan of Abu-Dawood)
This shows how we must treat our mothers in a manner befitting their exalted position after Allaah and His Prophet (alaihis salatu wassalam).

Therefore, I advise you to fulfill the rights of your parents upon you everyday as filial children and refrain from all the innovations (days and anniversaries) that have been introduced into the deen. For every innovation is a misguidance. May Allaah ‘Azza wa jal increase us in hidayah.

…May Allah give us a better understanding & guide us to accept the truth
